Myyri & Anna (FIN)

Yoko Ono, John Lennon’s wife and widow, is mostly known for her performance art, often described as difficult to listen to. Her vocal style has famously been called screaming, and a critic once wrote about her songs on Live Peace in Toronto 1969:

“Side two was devoted entirely to Ono’s wailing, pitchless, brainless, banshee vocalizing on Don’t Worry Kyoko and John John. Yoko’s ‘art’ is just as irritating today as it was in 1969.”

She’s also frequently blamed for The Beatles’ breakup.

But few people know that Yoko has released several traditional pop and rock albums. Myyri Ruokolahti (of She’s Leaving Home) performed Yoko’s music at last year’s concert to show there’s more to her than most expect. The result surprised the audience, in a good way.

This year, the updated concert returns, now in collaboration with Anna Strandö.

Myyri & Anna perform on Sunday, September 21.
